  • Saba Saba 2013 Hi All,   Sunday July 7 was another great sailing day for the Saba Saba Cup Race with five yachts competing from DYC to the harbour and return.  The wind was already picking up by the noon time start and Smack Water Jack was quick off the line, flying her kite up to North Beach.  From there it was a beat to Daphne Outer with Smack holding her lead and Oronsay, Rhapsody, Kusi and Ilanga very close together jockeying for position.     Unfortunately, by the time the yachts arrived at Daphne Outer (which was missing), the temporary buoy had not been dropped by the committee boat and there was some confusion how to proceed.  With some yachts chasing down the moving  committee ...

  • Saba Saba - Harbour Race. The Saba Saba Harbour race this year was not unlike other harbour races in the past which involved retirements, wrong mark roundings, missing marks, large ships in the channel and the TPA Police. It was interesting to say the least!!!   We had a starting fleet of 11 yachts which included 4 newcomers to the fleet for the current sailing season. Jaap and Kobus Flew up from South Africa to join in the festivities on Rhapsody, Jammy Dodger joined in for her first harbour race, Valencia decided to grace us with her presence after a sabbatical and welcome to Fabrizio on Wimby Nyota who joined us for the first time.   • Land Rover Monthly Mug Hi Yachts,     Attached and below are the final results for the June Monthly Mug. We did say it wasn’t over yet……….. Congratulations to Paul and his crew on Smack Water Jack for winning the First Land Rover Monthly Mug!!   The Race: A windward start, using the new club outer and the committee boat saw the fleet heading for Nvovu as the windward mark. The wind that had increase from just a few knots to a 30 knot buster caught out a few yacht and there were some spectacular broaches while sailing to windward.
